Registered Psychologist and Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner

Bibra Lake base | Community-based Perth role | Psychology, PBS, NDIS and private clients

Sigma Therapies is looking for a Registered Psychologist and Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner to join our growing Perth team.

This role is for someone who is either a registered psychologist who is already considered suitable as an NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner, or a registered psychologist who wants to develop into Positive Behaviour Support with structured supervision and support.

The role can include NDIS participants, private/self-funded psychology clients and PBS work.

Sigma is also exploring aged care services, so there may be a future opportunity to contribute to that area where clinically appropriate.

You will be based from our Bibra Lake office, with community-based appointments across Perth and flexibility to complete administration, planning and reports from home.

  • About the role

This role combines psychology, behaviour support, clinical formulation, therapy, reporting and collaboration with families and support teams.

Depending on your experience, interests and PBS suitability status, your role may include:

    • psychological therapy for NDIS participants and private/self-funded clients
    • functional behaviour assessments
    • interim and comprehensive behaviour support plans
    • stakeholder consultation with families, support workers, coordinators, schools and providers
    • behaviour support implementation and review
    • restrictive practice reduction planning, where relevant
    • risk assessment and clinical formulation
    • report writing and NDIS documentation
    • collaboration with OTs, the future Speech Pathology service and other allied health clinicians
    • supporting people with complex disability, trauma, mental health and behavioural needs
    • future aged care psychology or consultation work as Sigma develops that service area
  • Who this role suits

This role may suit you if you are:

    • a PBS practitioner with psychology experience or an interest in applying psychological frameworks within PBS
    • a psychologist already doing PBS
    • a psychologist wanting to move into PBS
    • someone with NDIS experience
    • someone interested in a mixed NDIS and private/self-funded caseload
    • someone with disability, complex trauma, child and adolescent, forensic, mental health or neurodevelopmental experience
    • a PBS practitioner who is also a registered psychologist

Psychology experience is highly valued, but not essential. You do not need to meet every preference to have a conversation with us.

  • Essential requirements

    You must have:

    • general registration as a psychologist with AHPRA
    • eligibility to work in Australia
    • willingness to complete required NDIS worker screening requirements
    • professional indemnity insurance, where required by your employment arrangement
    • a current driver licence and access to a reliable vehicle
    • strong written communication and report-writing skills
  • PBS experience

Ideally, you will already be considered suitable as an NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner at Core level or above.

We are also interested in hearing from registered psychologists who are not yet PBS practitioners but have a genuine interest in developing in this area.

If you are newer to PBS, we can discuss whether a supported development pathway is appropriate. If you are not yet considered suitable as an NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner, PBS responsibilities will be structured appropriately and in line with NDIS requirements.

  • Employment type

    We are open to discussing:

    • part-time or full-time employment
    • flexible FTE
    • school-hours options where clinically workable
    • a gradual build-up of PBS work for the right psychologist
    • a mixed psychology, PBS, NDIS and private/self-funded caseload
    • contractor arrangements for the right person
  • Remuneration

$105,000 to $130,000 plus super, depending on PBS experience, capability level, FTE and caseload mix. Contractor arrangements may also be discussed for the right person.

  • What Sigma Therapies provides

We want this role to be sustainable. You can expect:

    • a Bibra Lake team base
    • work-from-home flexibility for reports and admin
    • admin support with bookings and communication
    • supervision and case discussion
    • support with NDIS documentation and compliance
    • flexibility around FTE and schedule
    • a gradual caseload build where appropriate
    • paid travel or travel reimbursement, depending on employment arrangement
    • laptop, systems and templates
    • CPD support
    • a team that understands psychology, PBS, private clients and NDIS work
  • What your week could include

    • community visits with participants and support teams
    • psychology sessions with NDIS participants or private/self-funded clients
    • functional behaviour assessment interviews and observations
    • behaviour support plan development
    • report writing from home or the Bibra Lake office
    • supervision and case review
    • meetings with support coordinators, families, schools or providers
    • collaboration with Sigma OTs, future Speech Pathology clinicians and therapy team members

This is not intended to be a back-to-back appointment role. We want clinicians to have the time to think, write properly and practise safely.

  • Location

Our main office is located at Sigma Therapies, 16/2 Ambitious Link, Bibra Lake WA 6163.

This is a community-based role across Perth, with work-from-home flexibility for report writing, planning and administration.

We do have satellite spaces across Perth, but this role is primarily connected to our Bibra Lake team.
